February 2022 Meeting

Committee Updates . . .

  • Power of 100+ Women Chico continues to recruit members and non-profits - keep the non-profits and generous women coming our way!

  • Know that we are very ready to get back to the energy and excitement of an in-person meeting, hopefully for our May meeting.

  • Our 100 Women group consistently donates $20,000 each quarter - what we do on meeting days makes a huge difference to real people! Power of 100 Women has donated over $266,000 to local non-profits since 2021.

  • CHAT is hard at work on Everhart Village and grateful for our November donation. For an update, go to http://www.100womenchico.com/updates

~Wings of Eagles, the Joseph Alvarez Organization for seriously ill children -

"Wings of Eagles" provides families with financial assistance on an as-needed basis with traveling, food, lodging, or household expenses. There are no pediatric specialty facilities in our area, so families usually have to travel to Sacramento, the Bay Area, or Southern CA for their child's treatment. Working parents lose time at work which results in reduced wages, but they have added expenses due to multiple out-of-town trips to their child's pediatric specialty facility. Single parent households have an even more difficult financial time during their child's illness and treatment. "Wings of Eagles" is the community safety net for families that suddenly find themselves in a crisis situation due to the unexpected diagnosis of a serious life-threatening illness of their child. "Wings of Eagles" has been in operation for over 29 years in our community and is supported solely through fundraisers, donations, and small grants. "Wing of Eagles" receives no state or federal funding.

The mission of California Vocations Inc. (CVI) is to provide an environment of respect and safety while supporting choice and promoting self-directed lives for adults with I/DD (Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities). Our vision is having individuals with I/DD live their dreams in a community where all belong.  For the last 38 years we have been helping our clients develop a positive self-image and a keen awareness of individual rights and community involvement. Each year we help over 200 individuals gain the skills and confidence necessary for long-term success in independent living, education, jobs, and positive family and community life. We believe in the shared responsibility of CVI and the broader community to advance the quality of life and future options of its I/DD people.

The United Way of Northern California was established in 1953 by a group of volunteers who wanted to make a difference in their community. Today, we’re a leading non-profit that works to help Northern California residents build better lives. We do this by running and supporting programs that focus on the building blocks of a good life – health, education, housing and financial stability. Our team is here for individuals and the community in times of public emergencies, disasters or other crises. UWNC is active in disaster relief and recovery, raises funds for non-profit agencies and operates two 24/7 human services helplines: 2-1-1 Shasta and 2-1-1 Tehama, collectively known as 2-1-1 NorCal.
